Home Security Systems Don't Play by the Rules

We were recently asked to collect data from a home security system. These are all proprietary devices running manufacturer-specific OSes, so their internal file systems aren't subject to scrutiny. Unless it's by the forensic community. We needed to recover deleted files from the DVR and were able to do so, after some manual analysis of the file system and leveraging some fine work in the broader community.
