Over its vibrant and colorful history, IACIS has emerged as a premiere international organization specializing in training and certification in the field of computer forensics. As a testimony to its continual pursuit of excellence in the scientific discipline of computer forensics, in 2012 IACIS was accredited by the Forensic Specialties Accreditation Board (FSAB) and is recognized as the first computer forensics organization accredited for its certification program (CFCE). Later that same year IACIS began offering certification as a part of the Certified Advanced Windows Forensic Examiner’s program. Today IACIS is governed by an 11-person Board of Directors and consists of approximately 2,200 members and 1,800 CFCE’s located around the world.
Simply stated, IACIS is a non-profit, volunteer organization wholly dedicated to training, certifying and providing membership services to computer forensic professionals around the world. Formed in 1990, IACIS has enjoyed steady international growth as it has matured into a well-respected professional organization of international acclaim.
Perhaps one of IACIS’ greatest strengths is found in its membership base, consisting of federal, state, and municipal law enforcement professionals, along with professional computer forensic practitioners located in more than 60 countries around the world. Another undeniable strength comes in the form of the basic and specialized training curriculum. As one of the primary core services provided by IACIS, training has served as the cornerstone upon which its professional certification foundation was built. For more than a quarter of a century IACIS has provided state-of-the-art computer forensic training to students around the world. From its simple beginning in 1990 providing US-based training, IACIS has become the international benchmark in computer forensic training.
The IACIS Certification Program clearly sets the organization apart from other forensic programs. Certification candidates are held to exacting standards and must successfully demonstrate a thorough understanding of the core forensic certification competencies to be awarded the highly coveted Certified Forensic Computer Examiner (CFCE) certificate.
In an effort to meet the ongoing demands of emerging technology, IACIS has been diligently investing in the development of specialized certifications such as the IACIS Certified Advanced Windows Forensic Examiner and IACIS Mobile Device Examiner certifications, specifically designed to equip IACIS members with the requisite specialized skills mandated by today’s technology.
